Do the teams wrestle as a team i.e., do they show at the same time and weigh in as a team and have to stay for the whole meet.
Yes - this is a team sport based on individual performances and are required to stay until the end of the meet. Tournaments are different. If the team is in a tournament and kids are signed up for that tournament as individuals they are able to leave if they are bumped out by losing. These can be rather long days if your kid does well.
Or do they weigh in for their weight class an hour or so before wrestling for the class begins, wrestle and then depart (that is what we did in the Northern Virginia Youth Wrestling League last year).
No - that is more of a tournament format. At tri and quad meets, the kids all weigh in at the same time and the weight classes start at the lightest and are increased. The kids are required to stay until the last match and the coach releases them.
In any case, what is the typical time requirement for the actual meet, start to finish? Just trying to size up what we would be getting into.
Typical meet is 3-4 hours.
